EU PPWR Packaging Law:<br /><span class="text-[#2F6B45]">2026 Brand Owner Guide</span>
The countdown to mid-August 2026 has begun. From mandatory recyclability to strict packaging minimization rules, master the technical compliance roadmap.

Quick Summary
The voluntary phase of eco-marketing is officially over — and it takes effect with no grace period. From 12 August 2026, PFAS and heavy metals in food-contact packaging must stay under 100 mg/kg, and every claim now needs third-party documentation behind it. The newly adopted Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) turns packaging from a marketing choice into a legal specification across all 27 EU member states.
BY RYAN WONG, ECO PACKAGING PROTOCOLMono-PE & Mono-PP Mechanical Validation
Single-polymer bags must match the physical performance of multi-layer co-extrusions. We test MDO-PE orientation, EVOH content, and sliding friction to enable flawless high-speed packaging runs and curbside recycling.
EVOH High Barrier Ratio
Maintains high barrier performance while meeting circular economy recycling rules.
ASTM D882 Tensile Test
Mechanical tensile strength ensures bag retains structural form under stress.
Heat Seal Window (ASTM F88)
Enables hermetic seals without melting or shrinking the mono-PE outer layers.
RecyClass Sorting Grade
Certified sorting compatibility in standard municipal recycling streams.
Puncture Test (ASTM F1306)
Prevents bag tears and punctures from dry pet kibbles or sharp snacks.
Friction Coefficient (COF)
Ensures film glides smoothly over packaging machinery forming collars without jamming.
