The Importance of the Degassing Valve

Freshly roasted coffee beans release a significant amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the days immediately following the roasting process. If packaged in completely sealed, airtight bags, this trapped gas will cause the bag to inflate and eventually burst. Conversely, if the bag is not sealed airtight, oxygen will enter, leading to rapid staling and loss of the volatile compounds that give specialty coffee its complex flavor profile.

The solution is the one-way degassing valve. This crucial component allows the built-up CO2 to escape from the inside of the pouch while preventing ambient oxygen from entering. Traditionally, these valves have been made of rigid plastics. We are proud to offer fully compostable degassing valves integrated seamlessly into our home compostable coffee bags. This ensures that every single component of your packaging, from the zipper to the valve, can return to nature.

High-Barrier Materials for Specialty Coffee

Coffee's three greatest enemies are oxygen, moisture, and UV light. To combat these, conventional packaging uses an inner layer of aluminum foil. While effective, foil makes the bag impossible to recycle or compost.

Our sustainable coffee bags utilize advanced, plant-based metallized cellulose to achieve high-barrier protection. This innovative material mimics the barrier properties of aluminum, boasting an ultra-low Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) and Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR). This guarantees that your meticulously roasted single-origin Ethiopian Yirgacheffe or robust espresso blend tastes just as vibrant when the consumer opens the bag as it did on roast day.

Packaging Formats for Coffee Roasters

Different roasters have different needs, which is why we offer our sustainable coffee packaging in various formats. The industry favorite is the Flat Bottom Bag (Box Pouch). Its box-like structure offers maximum stability on cafe shelves and provides five printable panels for extensive brand storytelling.

For smaller sizes, sample packs, or limited edition micro-lots, the classic Stand-Up Pouch is an excellent, cost-effective choice. We also offer side-gusset bags commonly used for wholesale accounts or 1kg/5lb bulk offerings. By maintaining a low Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) of just 500 units, independent roasters can confidently order custom-printed, eco-friendly packaging for specific lots without the burden of massive inventory.
